What is the Le Robert’s crossword solver?
Crosswords and arrow word puzzles are word games where players must find intersecting words in a grid from short clues that are often based on multiple meanings or synonyms. But it is not always easy to complete an entire grid without help, and crossword enthusiasts can sometimes find themselves stuck and unable to continue.
Le Robert’s crossword solver is a free search engine that allows you to find a French word from some of its letters and helps you complete your crossword, arrow word or codeword puzzles.
For example, you can:
- search for an 8-letter French word ending in Z
- find a 5-letter French word with the pattern P?T?E
- ask for a list of all 9-letter French words beginning with CH
- complete a 10-letter French word beginning with RE and ending with ER.
The 500,000 French words in the search engine’s database (including plurals, feminine forms, verb conjugations, abbreviations and acronyms) come from Le Robert’s major dictionaries: Le Robert Online Dictionary (free access), Petit Robert and Grand Robert de la langue française (access to definitions available with subscription).
How to use Le Robert’s crossword solver?
Select the number of letters in the word you are looking for, then enter the letters you already know in their correct positions. For unknown letters, you can either enter a space or leave the box empty. Then click the Search button to confirm.
The crossword solver will suggest all possible solutions. It is then up to you to find the one that matches the clue given for the word in your puzzle.

NB The red Erase button allows you to reset everything by clearing all the boxes.
Example of Le Robert’s crossword solver search
Let’s look at a real example: your grid contains a 5-letter Down word with the following clue: “Dans la cour entre deux cours”.
Because of the intersecting across clues you have already solved, you know that the word you are looking for has E as its second letter, C as its third letter, and E as its final letter.
Select “5 letters” from the drop-down menu, then place your cursor in the second box. Enter E, then C. Press the space bar to skip the fourth box, which corresponds to an unknown letter, then enter E in the fifth and final box. Finally, confirm by clicking the Search button.
The help tool offers you different possibilities: bêche, becte, dèche, déçue, lèche, lecte, mèche, necte, pêche, rêche, récré, reçue, sèche secte, vécue. Which one do you think corresponds to your definition?
